Lamb shank - Bukit Tinggi BBQ

The next trip you make to Genting Highland or Gohtong Jaya, don't forget to dropby at this Bukit Tinggi BBQ Restaurant. They served the best lamb shank in town. This restaurant is located right behind the BHP petrol station along the Karak highway.

The lamb shank is highly recommended and a must have dish here. The meat is tender and perfectly done.

Besides the best lamb shank, this restaurant also serves other signature dishes like seafood steam pot where crabs, prawns and lala (thick shell) are freshly steamed in a 3 layers steam pot with soup. The soup is boiled (steamed) with vege and tasty enough for you to finish them.

Other popular dishes we ordered include "salt baked" talapia and roast chicken (half bird)

One thing special about this restaurant is that the foods are cooked in manners not commonly found at other place, especially the "salt baked" talapia.

Don't forget to call for reservation if you plan to try out at this restaurant. The tables are occupied most of the time and I noticed that the operator instead of asking you to wait for a table, they will just ask you to leave.

Mun Fan (Steamed rice) - Restoran Sin Kee 新记

Here is the best and cheapest "mun fan" in town. I came across this restaurant from a food article. The last time I visited this shop was more than 10 years ago when they were located beside the Shell station in Brickfields. They moved to the present shop to make way for the Sentral development project.

The following photo shows the way the mun fan is served where you have to remove the inverted bowl yourself. But be careful, it's hot. A normal mun fan (served with pork) is priced at RM 6.50 whereas the seafood mun fan is RM7.00. Between the two, the seafood mun fan is highly recommended for their generous prawn and other seafood serving which can be seen from the photo.

Besides mun fan, this shop also serves western foods. My friend decided to try their chicken chop just for new experience. Not bad !

Roast Duck - Yummy Duck Roast House

If you are a wanton mee lover like me, this is the place you must try. Although the signature dish here is roast duck, but the wanton mee is equally good. This shop is just a few door away from PappaRich, Kuchai Lama.


Besides roast duck, there are many other choices for you to choose to go with the wanton mee, roast pork, prawn wanton (mixed with pork), BBQ char siew, dumpling and others. I strongly recommend roast duck and char siew.

The serving can come with any one of the above (RM7.80) or combination of 2 (RM9.80) or combination of 3 (RM 11.80). As the serving is quite generous, I always take combination of 2.

If you like spicy food, you can ask for the "hot & spicy" version for extra RM1.00.

Although they also serve variety of side dishes, my friend always ordered the duck spring roll (RM8.00).

I have been to this place several times, I find that the roast pork always finish early.

Chicken Rice - Loke Yun (乐园)

I come to know about this place from Axian's TV show (阿贤人情味) . This is one of the best chicken rice, if not the best, I ever had. If you know where Ampang's Hong Hong Yong Tau Foo is, then it will be easy for you. Make a right turn from "Hong Hong" and go all the way straight until you almost reach the police station. You will find one shop on your left with 2 orange color lantern hanged side by side along with the signboard.

We came all the way here to try the signature dish, ie. farm chicken. It cost RM30 for half bird which served with special made chicken intestine. Honestly the portion is generous for half bird, we have to "ta pau" what we cannot finish for our dinner.

One thing I must say about this place, unlike other normal chicken rice shops, the tables here are perfectly clean. Good job.

Though parking space is limited but manageable. You can either look for your parking when you see the orange lantern 200m away or you can easily double park in front of the shop, it's ok here.

Curry Fish Head - Pangkor Village

Hei, don't get misled by the name of this restaurant. This restaurant already has its long history in Taman Megah, PJ, right opposite Fatty Crab.

They are popular for their assam style curry fish head and crabs. We did not ask for crab for our dinner because I am not a crab lover (I find it too messy to go with both hands) and only ordered a regular size curry fish head, petai sambal prawn and seafood beancurd.

Steamboat - Uncle Duck (得哥火锅)

If you are a steamboat follower, you must make a trip to this place I recommend today, ie. Uncle Duck Hong Kong Restaurant located at 3rd floor of Time Square (right behind Wendy's).


A normal steamboat outlet normally has about 3 choices of soup for you but this place has 11 all together, which will be served with another 12 mix of dishes.

Choose one of these soups, congee, coriander & century egg, chicken, Hong Kong satay, tomyam, tomato & fish, super spicy, ginseng, herbal, pumpkin onion cream and Korean ginseng. And choose one of these meal sets, seafood, pearl oyster, mixed set, cuttlefish noodle, dory fish, Australian beef, vegetarian, roasted duck, sliced pork, Qui Hua fish (桂花鱼), Australian mutton and chicken set.

All meals come in sets (including tea) and cost either RM1 below or RM1 above RM20, except vegetarian (RM14.90) and chicken set (RM16.90). A surcharge is imposed on premium soups. For eg. ginseng (RM10), super spicy soup (RM2), and so on.

For our dinner, we ordered 2 sets of super spicy soup (with lala) and a chicken soup, plus 2 seafood sets and a mixed set which look like this :

Depending on your budget, the restaurant also has a long list of side dishes for you to add on to your main course just in case your are a "big eater". The price ranges from RM4 to RM8 each. Here's what we ordered :

An important note, do not miss the sliced beef as add on.

As a footer, this place is ideal if you have a small family. Otherwise it will burn a small hole in your pocket (compared to a normal 2 person's set of about RM30).

It cost us about RM100 (after ++) for a 3 person's meal here. Considering the environment factor plus the quality of service, especially the quality of foods. This place is certainly my choice , and I am sure it will be yours too.

Pan Mee 泉记板面

I came across a food review article published in The Star (15 Oct) on one Pan Mee stall in PJ Old Town which I am familiar with but have not visited the place for some time. I decided to make a trip to the stall today just to refresh my memory on this tasty Pan Mee.

I ordered a pan mee soup which served with mushroom, fried anchovy and minced pork. One thing I like most is the fried anchovy which is very crispy and I was told this anchovy is of better grade. Sometime I ask the lady boss to put the anchovy in separate plate. My friend said this stall offered the best chili in town especially when mixed with some lime juice. Unlike other pan mee stalls, the soup here is clear and nice.

The pan mee can also be served with black source and this "mouth watering" pan mee only cost us RM4.00 a bowl (RM5.00 for big one)

You can find this stall in one Restoran He Pin (和平茶餐室) located behing SJK(C) Chen Moh at Jalan 51/200 (intersect with Jalan 2/27) of PJ Old Town fronting Jalan Penchala.


You can see the lady boss is happily waving at us.

This pan mee store also has another stall in Restoran Unlimited in Subang Jaya (Jalan SS14/2) which is managed by the husband.

Claypot Porridge 阿楠砂煲活田鸡

If you want something light for your supper, there is a new place in Kuchai Lama Dynasty Business Centre serving claypot porridge. This shop is behind PappaRich (Kuchai Lama), look for this signboard :

Their menu is quite simple. There are only padi frog and eel made up the main dish, cooked in 3 styles, dried chili (kong poh), ginger-onion and steamed pot. I have tried all combinations except the steamed pot, I thought this is more for children.

The freshly cooked pot priced at RM13 (small), there is only 1 frog or about 10 pcs of eel (cut into about an inch).


The pots can go with either plain porridge (served with onion) priced at RM3 per pot (small) or maggie mee priced at RM1.50 per plate. We ordered a large porridge pot for RM6 (see photo).


This is what we ordered for 3 persons' serving and cost us about RM40.00 (including 3 herbal tea).

As the restaurant is just newly opened for business, the environment is very clean and the service is friendly.

Claypot Lou Shu Fen 金记面家

Where can you find the best claypot "lou shu fen"? Some will say Petaling Street. Yes, that was many years ago. I found a new place in Subang 2 (or Bandar Pinggiran Subang).



The claypot is served in generous portion cooked with minced pork, char siu, taugeh and egg, and the specially made belacan is terribly hot (sorry, I am not a chili lover).

The price for this generous portion of claypot lou shu fen is only RM4.50. The stall will close for one day rest every month.

About 6 months ago, my friend Mr Boo brought me to this food stall in a coffee shop called "Restaurant Sin Seng Leh" in Subang 2 and I was recommended the claypot "lou shu fen". I definitely come back for the claypot lou shu fen everytime I come to visit my friend here.


From the above signage, the stall also sell other types of noodles but I have not tried any of them, because I love the claypot lou shu fen so much.

The cute looking lady boss told me they have other outlets selling the claypot. There are 2 stalls in Ara Damansara alone. One inside a shoplot next to NiuZeXiu and the other one in a coffee shop near the business centre. There is another one in Selayang. All outlets are run by family members. I have tried the Subang 2 stalls for several times but yet to try the other outlets.
